Decking
Decking clips, screws and fascia guide
The small deck parts that often get missed when a material list starts with boards only.
Boards are not the whole list
A deck list that only names boards usually needs another pass. Fixings, fascia, trims and care items are the parts that make the list usable on site. They also depend on the board profile, the frame and the finish expected at the edges.
- Board profile affects fixing choice
- Visible edges may need fascia
- Steps and returns add trim decisions
- Care products depend on material
Accessory areas to check
Before selecting fixings
- Board material
- Board profile
- Frame material
- Visible or concealed fixing preference
- Coastal or exposed conditions if relevant
- Edges that remain visible
A simple accessory pass
- 1Start at the board
Write down material, profile and finish first.
- 2Move to the edge
Mark every edge that needs fascia, trim or a clean termination.
- 3Check direction changes
Steps, corners and breaks can add extra fixing and trim detail.
- 4Add care notes
If the material needs coating or cleaning products, keep that in the project notes.
Fixing questions
Can any screw be used for decking?
No. The fixing needs to suit the board material, frame and exposure. Put the material details in the list before choosing fixings.
Do concealed clips remove every visible fixing?
Not always. Edges, stairs and trim areas may still need separate fixing decisions.
Should fascia be listed separately?
Yes. Fascia is easier to review when visible edges are marked clearly.
Check the deck list before quote review
Add the fixing and edge details before sending the list through. It saves a second round of questions later.
